Keeping Hubby Happy!

Afternoon everyone.
Yesterday we had a very full day out. I was with my eldest daughter for most of the day as she is getting married next August so we have lots to organise and plan. My daughter and her fiancee are the last of their circle of friends to get wed. The weddings, hen parties and stag nights just seem to get more and more extravagant, its such a lot to sort out. More about that as we go along, today is about visiting wedding venue dressers - I never even knew they existed till yesterday!!
Hubby went walking with his best friend as he does usually every other weekend. This weekend they visited Delamere Forest which is in Cheshire. The reason that they chose to go there this time was because of the very hot weather, the theory being that there would be plenty of shade. He said that it was very busy so everyone must of had the same idea!
After Hubby returned form his walk yesterday, he picked me up from daughters and then suggested going for a beer as the sun was still shining. We went to another craft beer bar called Kraftworks. It has been open for just over a year and was really popular when it first opened but trade seems to have dropped off. It will be a pity if it closes as it has a really good range of craft ales for sale both on tap and in bottles and cans.
We were chatting to the barman yesterday and he explained that, while they are doing well with the beers on draught, the bottled beers aren't selling really. This could be a combination of things but I suspect its mostly due to the price. Most of the beers start at around the £3.50 mark for a 330ml bottle and go up to over £10. He told Hubby that they are having a change of plan and are getting rid of the shelves of beers that line the back wall and just having two large double fronted fridges with cold beers in instead, plus a couple of extra pumps with draught beer on. In the space where the shelves were they are going to put more seats. Hopefully these little changes will be enough to keep them going. Good luck to them.
Anyway the up side of this is that they are selling off a lot of stock as they don't have room for it. A sale in a craft beer shop is music to Hubby,s ears and so we had to pop back this afternoon. He managed to get 10 bottles for £13 which is a real bargain. They are going to be marking the beers down and some will be just £1 each which from £3.50 at the very least is a bargain. Hubby prefers to have a couple of really nice beers than lots of cheap cans of beer.
This little lot will keep a smile on Hubby's face all week. He's easily pleased!
Has anyone else got any good bargains lately? Do you prefer to have less of something in favour of quality?
Have a lovely evening everyone,
Jules

I will try to read all comments and reply. Please be polite and kind. Thanks :)

  1. Quality over quantity every time. I don't drink, never have, so the prices of beers, wines or any drink goes completely over my head, so I'll take your word for it that your husband got a bargain. Will he be getting some more? Sounds like too good a bargain not to.

    1. Hi Joan, Hubby probably has about 4 bottles a week but really enjoys the craft beers so sometimes will pay about £3-£4 for each beer. I don't really drink either, I can take it or leave it. He says he will pop back to the shop later in the week and if there's any left he will buy some to take away on holiday with us x

  2. Have fun with the wedding planning! We are just 19 days away from my daughter's wedding and so excited. I remember when it was over a year away and now here we are, just weeks to go.

    1. Wow Vicki, I bet you are really excited now it's so close. You're right it seems such a long time away but i'm sure it will come around so quickly. I'm dreading having to find an outfit but really looking forward to everything else. Hope everything goes well for your daughters wedding. Congratulations!! x

  3. Our middle grown up child (son - 28) got married just 4 weeks ago. We found it all stressful - and that's just from the groom's side - it must be more stressful being the bride's mum!! 18 months of planning whizzed by - but it was a lovely memorable day.

    1. Hi Mrs, our son got married 3 years ago but we didn't really have to do much and just gave them money as a wedding present. I just think weddings nowadays get bigger and bigger and you can get roped into buying all sorts of weird and wonderful things if you're not careful. Young people are under such a lot of pressure to keep up with friends weddings. x

  4. I'll stick with quality.
If you point out to the kids that the wedding cost would make a decent down payment on a house would they consider just going to the justice of the peace and getting it over with lol?

    1. There's no chance of that i'm afraid. To be fair they are already on the property ladder. They have a huge circle of friends and each of the weddings has been big and extravagant as have the hen/stag do's. Theirs is the last of the weddings amongst their circle and they wan't something equally as special. I did try to convince them to have a smaller wedding and spend the rest on a lovely conservatory or a holiday but it was no go! ha ha x

  5. Hi Jules, loving your blog :-)

I always go for quality and a bit less.

As for weddings, a young colleague of mine (25) got married a few weeks ago. She let slip that the wedding and honeymoon cost them £24,000!! She's currently posting amazing photos from Mexico! Another young colleague (22) has just bought her first home with her partner (3 bedroom end terrace)and they had saved a similar amount for their deposit.

Both lovely girls, just different priorities.

    1. Hi Ali, thanks so much for your kind comment. The amounts they spend are ridiculous arn't they. Our first home was less! My daughter and partner have lived together for four years now and have been buying their own home for the past two so I can't moan at them if that's what they want. They are 32 and 29 and both have good jobs. Your young colleague is very young at 22 to be buying her own property, she's definitely got her head screwed on. x
