Charity Club
Evening Everyone.
I have been to a club this evening that I have been going to for almost twenty years now. My mum, sister and friend also go. It was started up over thirty years ago ( my mum has been there from the start) by a group of friends to raise money for the local church to pay for much needed repairs. It is called Goldenhill Slim Together Club. The ladies decided it would be a good way to lose a few pounds and raise money at the same time.
The group grew and grew ( only in numbers not waist sizes!) until they had to move to a bigger venue. They raised much more money than they had ever expected and so started to have a grand cheque giveaway once a year to support local charities. They hold raffles and bric a brac stalls, quiz evenings and sales. Every penny of the money apart from the hall hire fee goes to charity. They give to thirty local charities including the Diabetic Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Dougie Mac, Zipper Club, Breathe Easy, several wards at the local hospital, Disabled Anglers Association, local Guides, Brownies and Scout groups, several special needs groups and of course the local churches. They even knit blankets and donate dog and cat food for the local animal shelter. Up to last year, they had raised and given away over £89,000. Not bad for just a small group of ladies, most of whom are elderly now. I am very proud of them and to support them. It's amazing what a big difference a small group of people can make. Restores your faith in humanity and humbles you, none of us knows when we may need help.
Jules x

  1. They are doing a great job. It's always better to support them than to need them.
