Wedding dress shopping, artisan markets and the Jazz Festival
Evening Everyone.
A really quick post tonight as I am shattered! I have been with my eldest daughter to look at wedding dresses today for her forthcoming wedding next August.
Myself, eldest daughter, my other two daughters plus my daughter's best friend went to two bridal shops (by appointment only - can you believe that!) to try on some dresses.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of all that fussing and fawning and much prefer to have a rummage on the rails, pick a few out that I like and try them on. Oh no! That is definitely not allowed. Nor is taking photographs of any we liked so we could think about them at home. Such a palaver! My daughter's friend had the skills of a ninja and actually managed to take a few sneaky pics.
So we had one appointment in the morning and one mid afternoon. In between, we went for brunch in town.

In the first shop my daughter tried on endless dresses until she found one she quite liked. She took all the details and made a further appointment for next week so she could think about it. At the second shop she tried on another set of dresses and once again found another that she quite liked, which, incidentally, was totally different from the first. Again, she wanted to think about it so we got the details and will go back if she decides that is "the one".
I can't blame her - it's important to get the dream dress on your wedding day and also it is an awful lot of money if you are unsure. You could buy a car for the price of some of those dresses, it's scary!
So guess what I will be doing for most of next week? Answers on a postcard. 😏

I will try to read all comments and reply. Please be polite and kind. Thanks :)
Wedding dress shopping has changed and we made a day of it too. Happy planning! I'm happy my daughter's wedding is behind us now and my mother of the bride to do lists are done!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, I know were to come for wedding advice then now. The bridesmaids dresses are sorted and once my daughters wedding dress is bought I will concentrate on my own outfit. x

ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anything more tedious than shopping for wedding dresses...unless it's the actual wedding lol. Such a lot of hoopla.
ReplyDeleteThe weddings just seem to get bigger and more lavish than in previous years. So much to organise x

ReplyDeleteToo much ado wedding dress shopping. In the Netherlands you have to make appointments to.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the entire wedding stuff is far too expensive and overdone. They'd better spend the money on the house, a holiday or something else. Children for instance, since the greater part of the couples marry when they're pregnant or already have children.
Nevertheless the dresses on the pictures are quite nice!
Enjoy the festival.
Hi Ivy, I agree with the money being spent better elsewhere too but they are paying for most of it, have very good jobs and it is their choice. They don't have children but they do own their own house. I'm hoping that they will start a family as they will make great parents. x
DeleteI am with Ivy, in that too much money is spent on wedding dresses and weddings, that could be much better used towards a house deposit, furniture or anything but a dress that will only be worn once ! And.....there is still a year to go til the wedding?
ReplyDeleteMy entire wedding was planned and done within 3 months. Outfit..white cotton, Edwardian style 2 piece cost £22 in 1974 !
Frances, my wedding was on a budget too and we loved every minute of it. It's a different world nowadays and the young ones are on much better pay than we were. I bet you looked fab , I can just picture it x
DeleteI paid £15 for my dress in 1969. I went and bought it with a friend, never even thought of asking my mother! Years down the line, when I was a bit older, I was so sorry for that. When my daughter was looking for a dress 25 years ago I made a point of asking my mother to come along with us, I think she enjoyed the day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really kind thing to do Eleanor. I bet your mum loved that x
DeleteI remember going along with my daughter and her bridesmaids to choose her wedding dress seven years ago, such a lovely special day together. It’s all part of making memories together. I love the dress in the 3rd and 4th photos btw looks amazing, good luck with it all and enjoy every moment x
