Fruits of my labour

Evening Everyone.
Well what a busy, busy few days I've had. It has been ridiculous, I've not had a minute.
I made the 70th birthday cake for my brothers mum in law who is a lovely lady and very big in the WI. No pressure here for a decent cake then???
Before I started the dining room was all neat and tidy, it didn't stay like that for long!
Just getting everything ready to decorate the cake

The cake was a vanilla sponge with a strawberry and champagne jam and vanilla butter cream filling.  It was crumb coated with a very thin layer of butter cream then iced with fondant icing. Finally it was decorated with what seemed like a million flowers in different sizes and various shades of purple, lilac and white. Each had a different centre, some with silver balls, others ivory balls and some had very small ivory sprinkles. It was very time consuming. Measuring 16" x 12" Oblong, it was quite a heavy cake.

Not only did I have this to make but I also got asked to make a cupcake bouquet for my granddaughters school coffee morning yesterday. The coffee morning was to raise money for a cancer charity so I didn't mind helping out. I didn't realise when I was asked to make them that there was a competition for the best cakes. I got a phone call from a very excited granddaughter after school yesterday to say she had won first prize and had a £10 gift voucher. She was thrilled to bits and it made me happy to hear her so excited. Being a Nanna is a real privilege.
Here are the cakes for the bouquet

The picture doesn't do the bouquet justice as my daughter in law had put them into a box and put cellophane around them. She is a trained florist and is really good with anything like that.
Do you get asked to help out with items for family members? What talents or crafts do you have that get called upon?
Jules x

I will try to read all comments and reply. Please be polite and kind. Thanks :)

  1. Oh my Lord! That bouquet! How gorgeous is that. I can see roses, hydrangeas and dahlias (or chrysanths?). Absolutely beautiful.
The birthday cake is also a stunner. You're very talented.
(Mrs) - google won't let me comment in the usual way, hence my name in brackets.
